When you learn a new skill through hands-on exercise you immediately gain thorough understanding of its complexities in a way that watching someone else does not give. You’ll know where the difficulties lie. With that experience, your eyes open to tiny hand movements and instrument handling that would have gone unnoticed. And sometimes these tiny details make all the difference.
Lincoln says “My philosophy of teaching is heavily influenced from when I got my pilot's license. Knowledge and theory is important. However there is no substitute for actually doing something to build skill.
It is for this reason that when I teach a hands on course, you actually do hands on for the entire day. For next year, the theory will be delivered online beforehand so that when you are at the hands on, you will do many repetitions.
It is exhausting, but it teaches a lot of hand eye skill by doing one exercise after another, rather than spending two days doing one tooth perfectly. Boot camp.”
